Dive Site Overview:
Mackerricher State Park

Dive Site Overview:

Mackerricher State Park is just North of Fort Bragg, and the park includes 2,300 acres of oceanfront, and approximately 450 acres offshore designated as an underwater park. There are also 140 campsites available here, with restrooms and showers.

The main divesite is a large protected cove, with depths reaching about 50 feet, and a good site for all skill levels, depending upon conditions of course. For spearfishing or abalone hunting, keep in mind that you need to be out of the marine preserve area.

For more complete information and current dive conditions, contact Subsurface Progression in Fort Bragg. They also have complete scuba and freediving gear available, including complete gear rental packages for the weekend warrior.

Getting There:

Mackerricher State Park is three miles north of Fort Bragg on Highway 1, near the town of Cleone. The park encompasses much of the land west of Cleone and a strip of beach between Fort Bragg and Ten Mile River.

Typical Conditions:

Mackerricher is fairly exposed to the open ocean, and does not offer a lot of protecting from incoming swells and surf. Be sure to evaluate the conditions carefully before entering the water, and never dive beyond your limits of endurance.
